YUVA donates 251 boxes of new & used clothes to 24 NGOs for them to organise events

YUVA is committed to bettering the lives of all Mauritians, more importantly of most vulnerable citizens including children and young people.

However, YUVA believes that to attain the organisation’s vision we need to have collaborative actions. A pioneering step in its own, YUVA has donated, in the last one month, 251 boxes of new and used cloth items to NGOs around the island with the intent to support the NGOs in organising Christmas and New Year events for their beneficiaries.

Tombola Campaign to Support the Education of Needy Children

YUVA works with children living under the poverty threshold. We have launched a national tombola campaign, mainly being circulated in secondary schools, corporate and public organisations, and NGOs.

The funds raised through this tombola are going to be used to assist our children with a variety of critical educational needs.

Report: Family Protection including Gender-based Violence in Mauritius

Family protection is an important aspect in any society because the family is a small unit and families make up the society. Happiness and peace including safety are determinants of a healthy society. In Mauritius, Ministry of Gender Equality, Child Development and Family Welfare is responsible for family protection including gender-based violence, domestic violence, child abuse, elderly abuse, family conflict and conflict among neighbours. Police Family Protection Unit (PFPU) was set up in 1994 with the aim of providing specific services to vulnerable in Mauritius. PFPU is decentralized on a regional basis with a special policing approach for its operation with some underlying principles such as welcoming phase, active listening, individualism, non-judgmental attitude, freedom of decision and confidentiality.

YUVA at African Women in Dialogue, Johannesburg

The air was filled with excitement at OR Tambo International Airport as women from across the continent streamed in to attend the African Women in Dialogue (AWiD) conference that took place in Johannesburg, Gauteng.
