On 29 March 2019, YUVA celebrated the World NGO Day 2019 with university students and NGO representatives on the campus of the University of Mauritius (UoM).
World NGO Day is a day for NGOs around the globe to share knowledge and experiences with one another. It aims to educate individuals worldwide on NGOs and their impact. The World NGO Day also provides an opportunity to honour and remember NGO founders, employees, volunteers, members and supporters.

On Monday, 18 March 2019, 15 students from the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD) were introduced to the Student Leadership Programme (SLP) delivered by trainers of the YUVA Academy.
This first session took place at the Paul Tourreau Community Centre. The students were aged between 16 and 17 and were mainly from the fields of housekeeping and electric work. Although they lacked the know-how on the topic, they were zealous to learn and utilise the knowledge and skills to be gained from the programme in their professional careers as well as personal lives.

The National Day 2019 Student Speech was organised by YUVA on Friday, 8 March 2019 at the Council Chamber of the Municipality of Port Louis, on the occasion of the 51st Independence Day and 27th Republic Day of Mauritius.

The event started with a rendition of the National Anthem, evoking patriotic sentiments within each attendee. Attendees consisted of members of the Ministries, Presidents and Directors of organisations, Rectors, educators and secondary school and university students. Following the welcome address, the event proceeded with a brief account of the National day.
The aim of the event was to provide the younger generation of Mauritius with a platform to make their voices heard, since they also form part of the stakeholders in the development of the country.

The second cohort of YUVA’s ‘Moral and Civic Education’ programme has successfully been launched at the Sir Abdool Razack Mohamed Secondary School on Wednesday. Our team is working with a batch of around 20 ambitious students of Grade 8.
Our young people should realise that Moral and Civic Education is essential to sustain our constitutional democracy. The habits of the mind, as well as “habits of the heart,” the dispositions that inform the democratic ethos, are not inherited. As Alexis de Tocqueville pointed out, each new generation is a new people that must acquire the knowledge, learn the skills, and develop the dispositions or traits of private and public character that undergird a constitutional democracy. Those dispositions must be fostered and nurtured by word, learning, and by the power of example.
