The Children Health CPD Event was held on Wednesday, 26 June 2019 at the Paul Octave Wiehe Auditorium of the University of Mauritius. Organised by Transphorm Professionals Limited, the event aimed to provide a training session for the continuous professional development of Pharmacists in Mauritius.
YUVA was invited to significantly collaborate on the event in order for the audience to gain an insight into how best to incorporate the social aspect in the pharmaceutical and medical domains. Apart from pharmacists, participants also included doctors and other healthcare professionals.
Starting at around 6.30 PM, the event took the form of a lecture, which was delivered by Dr Kevin Teerovengadum, a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon of Wellkin Hospital, specialising in paediatrics, neonatology and paediatric surgery. The lecture addressed mainly the topic of children’s health, in particular the issue of constipation.
The training was of a holistic nature, covering the medical and pharmaceutical aspects of the topic. In addition, it aimed to incorporate the social aspect by taking onboard NGOs in Mauritius that operate in the health sector. YUVA, as well as Enn Reve, Enn Sourire, were present at the event to provide such an understanding to the audience.
Health is one of the main pillars of YUVA’s vision to eradicate poverty in Mauritius. YUVA believes that health and poverty are strongly linked. This is because health issues are often the factor plunging families into poverty. Plus the conditions many kids and young people face make them predisposed to health issues. Investing in health will help kids and the youth to build a future for themselves. YUVA has been contributing to the sustainable development of children and young people since its inception. Hence, YUVA was an ideal collaborator for this event.
YUVA has previously conducted different projects in the health area. Blood donation campaigns, setting medical camps, raising awareness on the prevention and cure of common diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension, distribution of medical plants which play a crucial role in disease prevention, all contributed to bettering the health of the young people and children in Mauritius, especially those living in difficult conditions. YUVA is an unswerving supporter of children’s and young people’s health.
Participants were invited to YUVA’s stand to learn more about YUVA’s work. Moreover, they were invited to collaborate with the NGO for future projects in the health sector, for a positive development of the state of health of Mauritian youth and children, especially the most vulnerable. This was done through the distribution of flyers, brochures and business cards, as well as in-depth discussions with YUVA representatives, over refreshments.
The event was a resounding success and acts as a strong initiation for a long term partnership between YUVA and Transphorm Professionals Limited, as well as the pharmacist community.
