YUVA participates in Launching of SADC Electoral Observation Mission to 2019 Elections

On Saturday, 2 November 2019, YUVA was invited by the Head of the SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM), the Honourable Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Dr Sibusiso B. Moyo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe, to the Launch of the SEOM to the 2019 National Assembly Elections of the Republic of Mauritius, at the Caudan Arts Centre, Port Louis.

The SADC delegates comprised of the Honourable Lt. Gen (retired) Dr Sibusiso Moyo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Head of the SEOM to the Republic of Mauritius; the Senator Amb. Simon K. Moyo, Alternate Head of the SEOM to the Republic of Mauritius; the Electoral Commissioner and Members of the Electoral Supervisory Commission; Heads of the International Electoral Observation Missions; Heads and Representatives of the Diplomatic Missions accredited to the Republic of Mauritius;  Members of the SADC Electoral Advisory Council as well as SADC Election Observers.

Team Mauritius bags Robotics Safety Award at FGC 2019, Dubai

Team Mauritius participated at the FIRST Global Challenge (Robotics) 2019 in Dubai between 24 to 27 October. Mauritius was represented by 5 young people – Anushree Luchooa from the Droopnath Ramphul State College, Tanversingh Juwheer from the Goodlands State Secondary School (Boys), Taran Dhani Varun from the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD), Devesh Takoor from the Sir Leckraz Teelock State Secondary School and Lurvish Polodoo from the Royal College Port Louis.

An initiative of YUVA, FIRST Global Mauritius aims at promoting STEM education in Mauritius by selecting and mentoring kids to form a solid Team Mauritius for the yearly international FIRST Global Challenge – “The Olympics of Robotics”.

YUVA and Centre for Counselling conduct Stress Management & Mindfulness Programme at AXIS

On the occasion of the World Mental Health Day held on Thursday, 10 October, YUVA partnered with the Centre for Counselling and Mindfulness to conduct a training session on mindfulness with 48 staff members of The Axis, at its Head Office located in Ebene, Cybercity.

YUVA partners with Curtin University Mauritius to Advocate for Mental Health

In line with its fourth pillar, ‘To help children & young people develop healthy habits & connect them to services’, YUVA collaborated with students from Curtin University Mauritius to launch a campaign on mental health awareness among university students, on the occasion of the World Mental Health Day.

As part of an assignment for their module ‘Media for Social Change’, students Reasha Subrun, Vedisha Sadien, William Ng Wong and Jean-Yan Norbert, of Curtin University Mauritius, sought out collaboration with YUVA to launch a campaign on mental health, with an emphasis on social media as the medium to spread awareness among university students.

YUVA conducts Corporate Leadership Programme with Indian Oil Mauritius staff

On Wednesday, 9 October 2019, the YUVA Academy conducted a 4-hour session on Corporate Leadership with 19 staff members of the Indian Oil Mauritius Limited (IOML).

IOML was incorporated in Mauritius in 2001 and began physical operation in 2004.  IOML has, over the years, positioned itself as the leading supplier of Jet Fuel in Mauritius. Within a short time, it has become the most preferred aviation fuel supplier in Mauritius, servicing nearly two-thirds of the total aviation fuel supplies in Mauritius. The company caters to the supply of fuel for all major International and Domestic Airlines in Mauritius.

Youth Is Not The Future of the Country; Old People Are

We’ve been taught to always focus on the youth, and the future they hold so dearly in their hands. That they are the ones who will correct the injustices, which previous generations have set in motion over decades.

But let’s face it, Mauritius is getting old at a faster rate than ever before with no signs of slowing down any time soon. We’ve been watching for some time now how the older generation is increasing while the young generation is not, or at least at a much slower pace. It’s reported that between 1972 and 2015, the percentage of people over the age of 60 has increased from 5.9% to 14.8% (Le Mauricien, 2017).
