Rodrigues is an autonomous outer island of the Republic of Mauritius, situated in the Indian Ocean east of the main island.
Its geography, scale and community life give Rodrigues a distinctive identity, while its people remain part of the wider Mauritian national community.
YUVA’s approach in Rodrigues is rooted in the same principle that guides its wider work: young people should have meaningful opportunities to participate in shaping the future of their communities.

Rodrigues is part of Mauritius, but it is not one of the nine districts.
Rodrigues formerly had district status. It became autonomous in 2002 and is governed through its own regional institutional structure.
Island development works best when islanders help shape it.
Rodrigues has its own geography, institutions, culture and development context. Local participation therefore matters enormously.
YUVA’s wider philosophy is to create space for young people to move from being recipients of development to becoming active contributors to it.
Youth participation on the island has long been part of YUVA’s story.
YUVA’s earlier Rodrigues page documented a local group of young Rodriguan volunteers working towards the organisation’s goals and objectives on the island.
That record belongs to an earlier stage of YUVA’s development and is retained here as part of the organisation’s history rather than as a current membership count.
