Team Mauritius bags Robotics Safety Award at FGC 2019, Dubai

Team Mauritius participated at the FIRST Global Challenge (Robotics) 2019 in Dubai between 24 to 27 October. Mauritius was represented by 5 young people – Anushree Luchooa from the Droopnath Ramphul State College, Tanversingh Juwheer from the Goodlands State Secondary School (Boys), Taran Dhani Varun from the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD), Devesh Takoor from the Sir Leckraz Teelock State Secondary School and Lurvish Polodoo from the Royal College Port Louis.

An initiative of YUVA, FIRST Global Mauritius aims at promoting STEM education in Mauritius by selecting and mentoring kids to form a solid Team Mauritius for the yearly international FIRST Global Challenge – “The Olympics of Robotics”.

YUVA selects 14-year old Taran Dhani of MITD to represent Mauritius in Robotics Competition in Dubai

My name is Taran Dhani “Varun”. I am 14 years old and I come from Petit Raffray in Mauritius.

I am deeply passionate about electronics and mechanics. I like building little gadgets and repairing devices. It is an interest that I have developed since childhood. Whenever it came to playing with my games, I used to disassemble them and assemble them and that is how my hobby became a professional interest. At the moment, I pursue vocational training in the field of electronics at the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD). After my studies, I would like to become an engineer. Later on, I want to create a start-up to design high-tech gadgets.

YUVA begins Leadership Programme with 15 MITD Students at Paul Tourreau Community Centre

On Monday, 18 March 2019, 15 students from the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD) were introduced to the Student Leadership Programme (SLP) delivered by trainers of the YUVA Academy.

This first session took place at the Paul Tourreau Community Centre. The students were aged between 16 and 17 and were mainly from the fields of housekeeping and electric work. Although they lacked the know-how on the topic, they were zealous to learn and utilise the knowledge and skills to be gained from the programme in their professional careers as well as personal lives.
