Our focus is on four key outcomes: for kids and young people to graduate HEALTHY, EDUCATED, EMPOWERED and EMPLOYED. Why these four? Because they’re all interconnected and essential to achieving the big goal: helping break the cycle of poverty.
When kids and young people are healthy, they have the energy and ability to learn and thrive. When they receive a quality education, they gain knowledge and skills that will help them succeed in life. When they feel empowered, they are confident in their own abilities and can make positive choices for themselves. And when they are employed, they have the opportunity to create a better future for themselves and their families.
Health
Knowledge is power, especially when it comes to getting and staying healthy. At YUVA, we believe that having access to reliable information is key to making informed decisions about our health.
Whether it’s a new diet trend or a specific exercise routine, countless opinions and advice are always delivered to our beneficiaries during our fortnightly medical camps. Our health programmes focus on two essential things:
- Developing healthy habits, and
- Connecting kids and young people with services when they need help.
Education
Education doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all solution. Donor’s support is invested in helping kids and young people complete school using a wide range of tools to make it happen: providing school fees, uniforms, supplies, tutoring and scholarships. Every child deserves the opportunity to receive an education, and we are committed to making that a reality for as many children as possible.
At YUVA, we understand that each child has unique needs and circumstances. That’s why our approach to education is personalised and tailored to fit each student’s individual needs. Our goal is not just to get students through school but to ensure their success in obtaining a quality education.
YUVA also enrols each child into its mentorship programme. Our mentors are experienced professionals in various fields who guide and support students, helping them navigate their academic and personal journeys. With our emphasis on individualised learning and mentorship, we believe that every child can reach their full potential.
Empowerment
Through empowerment programmes that build leadership, teamwork, and confidence, YUVA is making a brighter future possible and creating a positive ripple effect on children’s and young people’s communities.
YUVA has launched a speciality school called the YUVA Academy to sustain the empowerment cause. There exist three departments under the YUVA Academy:
YUVA Academy aims to provide education and training to youth from marginalised communities, focusing on developing their skills and knowledge in areas such as entrepreneurship, leadership, and technology. The speciality school was established to address the lack of opportunities for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Many of these individuals face barriers to accessing quality education and career development resources, leading to limited job prospects and financial stability.
Employment
YUVA is dedicated to empowering underprivileged individuals by providing them with the tools and resources needed to secure employment. One way that YUVA accomplishes this is through mock interviews. These simulated job interviews allow young adults living in poverty to practice their interview skills and receive feedback from experienced professionals.
In addition, YUVA offers résumé writing workshops where young adults can learn how to create a compelling and professional resume that highlights their skills and experiences. This is crucial in today’s competitive job market as employers often use résumés as a first impression of a potential candidate.
Furthermore, YUVA has established connections with various companies and organisations, allowing them to connect teens with job opportunities that align with their interests and skill sets. By bridging the gap between employers and teens, YUVA helps to increase the chances of securing employment for these young individuals living in poverty.
“For me, YUVA is a door to success. YUVA has had a great impact on me because it helped me grow as a leader. This programme changes lives — it changed mine. I participated in almost all the programmes here. Now, I am a volunteer, teaching the kids everything I learned.”
