I really feel that this parliamentary session on animal welfare should be held again because there were other aspects of humankind versus “animalkind” which were not discussed. Are we not snatching the rights of dogs and cats to live their lives by sterilising them? Isn’t there the issue of violence, gangrape, sexual abuse or paedophilia in our human society? Do we have recourse to methods such as human sterilisation or dissection of the sexual organs of humans to prevent these problems from occurring? If you analyse the various mythologies properly, you will conclude that animals were discriminated right from God’s age. The representative from PAWS said that animal welfare is our concern because we are animals also. In that case, women are also animals; are we doing something to protect women from male oppression or sexual abuse? Vegetarianism will not help to solve the problem because I don’t think that God Almighty has restricted humankind from eating animals. Something really ignored was the fact that humans are increasingly becoming materialistic; that’s why animals are continuously being utilitised in gruesome ways and ill treated.
