PORT LOUIS – YUVA Mauritius is excited to announce the commencement of its groundbreaking project, “STEM Education for Disadvantaged Kids to Increase the Representation of Young Girls in the Scientific Field.” Thanks to generous funding from the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), this initiative aims to bridge the gender gap in the field of science and technology by empowering 368 young girls in Mauritius with robotics skills. The project officially began on 25 August 2023 and is set to conclude on 29 February 2024.

Despite the adoption of the Convention of the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) by the UN General Assembly in 1979, violence against women and girls remains a pervasive problem worldwide.

To that end, the General Assembly issued resolution 48/104, laying the foundation for the road towards a world free of gender-based violence. Another bold step in the right direction was embodied by an initiative launched in 2008 and known as the UNiTE to End Violence against Women. intimate partner violence (battering, psychological abuse, marital rape, femicide);
sexual violence and harassment (rape, forced sexual acts, unwanted sexual advances, child sexual abuse, forced marriage, street harassment, stalking, cyber-harassment);
human trafficking (slavery, sexual exploitation);
female genital mutilation; and
child marriage.

YUVA wins ‘SADC Gender Protocol at Work 2019’ Award in the Youth Category

YUVA won the first prize for the Voice and Choice – SADC Gender Protocol @ Work Summit 2019 in the Youth category in recognition of its outstanding efforts in championing the Post-2015 SADC Gender Protocol and Sustainable Development Goals, and will be representing Mauritius at the regional summit to be held in South Africa in November 2019.

YUVA was invited by Gender Links to participate in the Voice and Choice – SADC Gender Protocol @ Work Summit 2019, held on Friday, 31 May 2019 at the Gold Crest Hotel, in Quatre Bornes, to showcase its work and activities for the year 2018 – 2019 targeting the YOUTH.
