2023 SDG Summit: High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development

Join the world in September for the 2023 SDG Summit in New York! Discover the roadmap for achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

In September 2023, the world will gather at the SDG Summit in New York for the mid-point review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the implementation of its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Summit is expected to adopt a political declaration that will provide a road map for putting the world back on track to achieve the SDGs by their 2030 deadline. The Summit will be informed by the 2023 Global Sustainable Development Report prepared by an independent group of scientists.

Pulses to Empower Youth in Achieving Sustainable Agrifood Systems: World Pulses Day 2022

An annual global United Nations event, the World Pulses Day is observed on 10 February to recognise the importance of pulses as a worldwide food source. World Pulses Day is an occasion to increase awareness of the nutritional advantages of pulses and their commitment to food production and a world without starvation.

In recognising pulses for their crucial role in achieving the detailed set of shared and transcendent goals and objectives in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, this celebration of pulses acknowledges their importance in pursuing peace.

11 February: International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2022

Every year, numerous events occur on February 11 to commemorate International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Each possibility is distinct, as diverse, and inventive as the individuals and organisations engaged. The 7th International Assembly of Women and Girls in Science will be conducted virtually this year at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. But what are the importance and history of this day?

Gender equality has long been a priority for the United Nations. Along with science and the empowerment of women and girls, they are all critical to global economic development and progress toward achieving internationally agreed-upon development goals, such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Over the last 15 years, the international community has worked hard to inspire and engage women and girls in science. Nonetheless, they continue to face challenges that prevent them from actively engaging in science.

World Tourism Day 2021: How COVID-19 has Impacted the Economy

In 2019, international tourist arrivals reached 1.5 billion, a 4% increase over 2018, consolidating a ten-year record where tourism grew faster than the world economy as a whole. Domestic tourism added a further 8.8 billion arrivals. The sector generated $1.5 trillion in exports and employed one in ten people directly or indirectly.

Tourism came to a standstill in mid-March 2020. International tourist arrivals decreased by 56 per cent in the first months of the year, with numbers in May down by 98 per cent. This translates into a loss of nearly $320 billion in exports – over three times what was lost during the whole of the 2009 global economic crisis.

World Tourism Day 2021: Roadmap to Transform Tourism by Tackling 5 Priority Areas

The World Tourism Day is being celebrated on 27 September 2021. Tourism is one of the world’s most important economic sectors. It employs one in every ten people on Earth and provides livelihoods to hundreds of millions more. For some countries, it can represent over 20 percent of their GDP.

It allows people to experience some of the world’s cultural and natural riches and brings people closer to each other, highlighting our common humanity.

24 January: Mauritius celebrates International Day of Education 2021

The right to education is enshrined in article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The declaration calls for free and compulsory elementary education. The Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted in 1989, goes further to stipulate that countries shall make higher education accessible to all.

When it adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in September 2015, the international community recognized that education is essential for the success of all 17 of its goals. Sustainable Development Goal 4, in particular, aims to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” by 2030.

International Youth Day 2019: Concept Note on “Transforming Education”

The theme of International Youth Day 2019, “Transforming education”, highlights efforts to make education more relevant, equitable and inclusive for all youth, including efforts by youth themselves.

Rooted in Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” – International Youth Day 2019 will examine how Governments, young people and youth-led and youth-focused organizations, as well as other stakeholders, are transforming education and how these efforts are contributing to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

12 August: International Youth Day 2019

This day is an annual celebration of the role of young women and men as key partners in change.

This day is also an opportunity to make young people aware of the challenges and problems they face.

According to the UN DESA report, World Population Prospects 2019, the global youth population is expected to reach nearly 1.4 billion people by 2065. By 2019, there are about 1.2 billion young people between the ages of 15 and 24 years in the world, or 16% of the world’s population. By 2065, the world’s youth population will reach its peak with just under 1.4 billion people (13%). The share of youth in the total population peaked at 19.3% in 1985. In 2019, Central and Southern Asia had the highest number of young people (361 million), followed by East Asia and South East (307 million) and Sub-Saharan Africa (211 million).

YUVA and AIESEC Partner on Mental Health Project

YUVA and AIESEC Reduit (Mauritius) have signed a partnership agreement to outline the cooperation between the two organisations in regard to the social project Extricate Minds, which is aligned to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 3.
