On the invitation of Gender Links (Mauritius), YUVA participated in the “SADC Protocol @ Work and Sustainable Development Goal Mini-Summits” at the Regional Training Centre of MACOSS, Moka.

Adopted in 2008, the SADC Gender Protocol is a unique sub-regional instrument for promoting gender equality that brings together regional, continental and global commitments to gender equality in one instrument, with an initial alignment to the Millennium Development Goals that expired in 2015.

Represented by Executive Director Krishna Athal, YUVA presented the following slides at the Summit to pitch for the Best Practice Award in Economic justice, including education, training, and economic development:

YUVA as Runner-up of Best Practice Award – Economic JusticeAmong the participating organisations in various categories were Apeded, VDR, M Kids, Will Fly, MedCare, Safire, Epilepsy, Island Bio, Falcon, Kinouete, YQA, Centre Solidarite, MAM, Raise Brave Girls, Haemophilia and CANMA.

At the end of the ceremony, the winners were announced. APEDED, represented by Anouradha Pooran bagged the First Prize (Winner) and YUVA won the Second Prize (Runner-up).

YUVA thanks all YUVANs, partners, funders and other stakeholders who have contributed to achieving this award.
