Shevin Capiron: Mentoring Mauritius for Robotics Olympics 2025

My name is Shevin Capiron, and I have the honour of mentoring Team Mauritius as we prepare for the FIRST Global Challenge 2025, set to take place in Panama. As someone who has been deeply involved in this journey—from competing as a participant in FGC 2021 and 2022, to now serving as a mentor—I’ve witnessed first-hand how robotics can shape not just skills, but lives.

Originally from Quatre Bornes, I’m currently pursuing my studies in psychology at the University of Mauritius. Some may wonder how psychology and robotics intersect, but to me, they are connected through human potential, problem-solving, and the drive to understand and improve the world around us.

My journey into technology began early. I was always fascinated by how things worked—taking apart machines, experimenting with code, and nurturing a deep curiosity for the systems that power our everyday lives. FIRST Global gave me a platform to channel that curiosity into real-world action. It taught me not only the technical skills of programming and engineering but also the value of teamwork, discipline, and vision.

This year’s theme, Eco-Equilibrium, is especially meaningful to me. It reminds us that innovation should serve a greater purpose—one that includes protecting the environment, promoting sustainability, and contributing to a healthier planet. FIRST Global has always stood out to me because it isn’t just about building robots—it’s about building solutions.

As a mentor, my goal is to support and empower the 2025 team in every way I can—technically, mentally, and strategically. I aim to help them sharpen their skills, strengthen their mindset, and most importantly, believe in themselves. I know how much it means to be part of something bigger, and I want them to feel that same sense of pride and possibility.

This year’s team has immense talent and drive. I believe in their ability to do great things—and I have no doubt that, with dedication and unity, Team Mauritius will shine on the global stage once again.
