I, Coiffic Maëlys, decided to participate in the FIRST Global Challenge to satisfy my curiosity about robots and their many features. Robotics is more than just building machines; it involves programming them to perform different tasks and overcome obstacles. Working closely with my team to optimise the robot’s functions and capabilities has been an incredible learning experience.

As our world becomes increasingly digitalised, robots are playing vital roles in various fields, from performing surgeries to industrial applications. Participating in this challenge opens doors to exciting opportunities and prepares me for a future where robotics will be essential.

Together with my team, we constantly innovate the purpose and function of robots—pushing boundaries on what robots can and cannot do. We strive to change traditional perspectives and optimise robot designs to focus on specific tasks. Teamwork is crucial in this process; every member’s unique skills and contributions—from strategy and design to coding—help us create a robot capable of overcoming the complex challenges we face in this competition. Without effective communication, we cannot reach our ultimate goal: winning for Mauritius.

Reflecting on previous challenges, the 2022 theme aimed to raise awareness about climate change and its impacts, highlighting how robotics can contribute to global solutions. It was inspiring and creative, showing how technology can tackle urgent environmental issues. This year, the theme Eco-Equilibrium emphasizes the delicate balance needed to protect our ecosystem, including flora and fauna, and prevent extinction.

Our strategy for this year is simple yet ambitious: to give our absolute best in every challenge. We focus on optimising both the design and programming of our robot with innovative ideas. Together, we hope to bring victory to our island nation and make Mauritius proud.
