Preparing for FIRST Global 2025: Mauritius Robotics Team Champions Environmental Action
YUVA
The Mauritius Robotics Team 2025 is stepping up its game as it prepares for the highly anticipated FIRST Global Challenge, taking place in Panama City, Panama from 29 October to 1 November 2025. With over 190 countries participating, this global competition not only celebrates STEM excellence but also encourages youth to be leaders in sustainability and social impact.
Beyond building a competitive robot, the Mauritius team is actively participating in all aspects of the challenge—particularly the social media missions that encourage real-world action. This past weekend, they successfully completed the 6th Social Media Challenge, titled “ECOACTION”—an initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and community involvement.
On Sunday, 29 June 2025, team members Navish Redini (Team Captain), Sajida Bibi Jomeer, Shreya Ramlowat, and Hashmi Mulloo took action at Le Dauguet Trail Park, a popular nature spot in Mauritius. Despite the presence of “No Littering” signs, the area was visibly polluted with garbage left by visitors. Determined to make a difference, the team organised a clean-up campaign to collect waste and restore the trail to its natural beauty.

But their efforts didn’t stop there. As part of their long-term commitment to the environment, the team also planted trees in the area, contributing to reforestation and spreading awareness about the importance of green spaces in the fight against climate change.
Team Captain Navish Redini shared, “Each point matters. These challenges are more than tasks—they’re opportunities to make a real impact in our community and represent the values of FIRST Global.”
This powerful initiative not only fulfills the requirements of the ECOACTION challenge but also highlights the team’s dedication to being responsible global citizens. Their work exemplifies the FIRST Global spirit: using science and technology as a force for good, while fostering leadership, collaboration, and community engagement.
As the Mauritius Robotics Team continues to prepare for Panama, they’re showing the world that innovation is most powerful when paired with purpose. Stay tuned as they take on more challenges—and inspire a nation.
