On 27 March 2025, YUVA Mauritius had the honour of attending the inaugural Symposium on Mental Health and Well-Being at the University of Technology, Mauritius (UTM). This significant event was held in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Helvetia Happiness, focusing on Women’s Mental Health and Well-Being. The symposium was also a tribute to the celebrations of World Women’s Day 2025.
The event provided an invaluable platform for women to connect, share their experiences, and build supportive networks. Creating a space where women feel heard and supported is essential for healing and fostering a sense of solidarity.
The symposium commenced with an introduction by Dr. Bholah, a distinguished lecturer at UTM, who set the stage for a meaningful discussion on mental health.
This was followed by two live talks delivered by Mrs. Deepa Tulsidas, an esteemed entrepreneur, and Ms. Sharmouna, both of whom shared their insights and experiences regarding women’s mental well-being.
A particularly moving moment of the event was an inspiring life story shared by Mrs. Rachel Ning from the audience, adding a personal and heartfelt touch to the symposium.
The proceedings continued with a speech by Dr. Goordoyal, the Head of the School of Health Sciences at UTM, emphasising the importance of addressing mental health challenges faced by women in today’s society.
Next, Mr. Syam V. D. Mudhoo, the President of the Rotary Club of Helvetia Happiness, took the stage to highlight the club’s role in promoting mental well-being and happiness within the community.

Following this, Dr. D. K. Hurreeram, Director General of UTM, addressed the attendees, reinforcing the university’s commitment to mental health research and advocacy.
The symposium concluded with a keynote speech by the Honourable Minister Dr. K. S. Sukon from the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science & Research. The Minister underlined the significance of mental health in higher education institutions and pledged governmental support towards improving mental health awareness and resources.

The symposium proved to be a remarkable event that not only raised awareness about women’s mental health but also provided a safe and encouraging environment for open discussions. YUVA was privileged to be part of this initiative and remains committed to furthering the cause of mental well-being. This event marks the beginning of continued collaboration and advocacy in the realm of mental health, ensuring that all individuals, particularly women, receive the support they deserve.
