The spirit of innovation and international collaboration is alive and well in Mauritius as the Mauritius Robotics Team 2025 begins its journey toward one of the most exciting youth robotics competitions in the world — the FIRST Global Challenge. This year, the prestigious event will be held in Panama City, Panama, from 29 October to 1 November 2025, and we are proud to represent our island nation on this global stage.
What is the FIRST Global Challenge?
The FIRST Global Challenge is an annual international robotics competition that brings together students from over 190 countries. Each year, the challenge focuses on solving real-world problems using STEM — Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Teams are tasked with designing, building, and programming a robot to complete specific missions aligned with global challenges, such as clean energy, water security, or carbon reduction.
Beyond robotics, FIRST Global fosters a spirit of unity, cultural exchange, and global citizenship, reminding us all that innovation knows no borders.
Twice a Week, One Goal: Excellence in Robotics
Our 2025 team, composed of passionate and talented youth from across Mauritius, has kicked off its preparation schedule with two sessions per week:
- One face-to-face meeting to work hands-on with the robot, exchange ideas, and collaborate on hardware development.
- One online session for planning, coding, simulation, and knowledge sharing — allowing team members to stay connected and productive even from a distance.
We’re currently in the crucial drivetrain development phase — also known as the base of the robot. This is the structural and mechanical heart that allows our robot to move efficiently and reliably on the competition field. Our engineering and design teams are working hard to create a strong, stable, and manoeuvrable base that will support the rest of the robot’s systems in the weeks to come.
This process is not just about building machines — it’s about building teamwork, problem-solving skills, and leadership. Each meeting is a step forward, not just for the robot, but for the young minds shaping the future of technology in Mauritius.
We’re Still Recruiting — STEM Girls, This Is Your Time!
As we continue to shape our team, we are looking for one more dedicated and talented girl, aged 14 to 18, with a background in STEM education (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics). This is a unique opportunity to:
- Represent Mauritius on a global stage.
- Work on cutting-edge robotics technology.
- Collaborate with international peers.
- Develop valuable skills in engineering, coding, teamwork, and communication.
If you’re passionate about innovation, eager to learn, and ready to take on a life-changing experience, we want to hear from you!
