International Literacy Day 2023: Promoting Literacy and Empowering Youth In Mauritius

International Literacy Day (ILD), established in 1967 and observed annually on September 8th, serves as a global reminder to the public of the critical importance of literacy as a fundamental human right. It also highlights the need to advance the literacy agenda towards a more literate and sustainable society.

Despite significant global advancements, literacy challenges persist, with 763 million young individuals lacking basic literacy skills as of 2020. Recent crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic, have only served to exacerbate these challenges.

YUVA Mauritius Empowers Disadvantaged Girls in STEM Education with Support from the CFLI

PORT LOUIS – YUVA Mauritius is excited to announce the commencement of its groundbreaking project, “STEM Education for Disadvantaged Kids to Increase the Representation of Young Girls in the Scientific Field.” Thanks to generous funding from the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), this initiative aims to bridge the gender gap in the field of science and technology by empowering 368 young girls in Mauritius with robotics skills. The project officially began on 25 August 2023 and is set to conclude on 29 February 2024.

Singapore to Host ‘Olympic-Style’ International Robotics Competition in October

Singapore will host the seventh edition of an international robotics challenge for youth in October, the first time the annual competition will be held in Asia. And YUVA Mauritius is the official partner of the event.

Around 190 countries will send a team each to Singapore to compete in the “Olympic-style” contest organised by the United States-based non-profit group First Global, which promotes science, technology, engineering and mathematics – or STEM – education.

7 Young Mauritians in Geneva for International Robotics Competition

Geneva is hosting the FIRST Global Challenge from 13 to 16 October 2022 at Palexpo, an international Olympic-style robotics competition. 7 young Mauritians reached Geneva yesterday to participate in this international robotics competition.

This is the 6th edition and the first event in Europe that will bring together future leaders in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) in a collaborative competition that aims to find solutions to the world’s biggest challenges. The event will be open to the public, but no advance tickets will be available.

I’m very introverted and have a lot of difficulties communicating with others, making it hard for me to make new friends. Zakiya Neamuth Selected in YUVA’s Robotics Team Mauritius 2022

My name is Zakiya Neamuth. I am 18 years old and currently in grade 11 at Hamilton College situated at Mahebourg. I have been selected to be part of YUVA’s Robotics Team Mauritius for the FIRST Global Challenge 2022.

My love and interest for robotics began in November 2018 when Sophia, the humanoid, was brought to Mauritius. I must admit that this wonder of engineering, science and psychology was captivating and made me read and research more about robots since then.

Everything You Need to Know about Team Mauritius’ Abhinn Kaushik

My name is Abhinn Kaushik. I am 15 years old and am pursuing my IB diploma studies at Le Bocage International School. I am part of FIRST Global’s official Robotics Team Mauritius.

Since the age of 12, I have been intrigued by the field of robotics. It all started from a small Dr Mady’s electronic set for beginners, from where I was introduced to the concept of electronics. Later, I could implement this knowledge I gained into robotics via the Arduino. I was shocked to see the potential of this microcontroller and how it could be used to induce change in our day-to-day lives.
