The countdown has officially begun! The Mauritius Robotics Team is hard at work preparing for the FIRST Global Challenge 2025, an international robotics competition bringing together youth from over 190 countries, to be held in Panama City, Panama, from 29 October to 1 November 2025.
This year’s theme, “Eco Equilibrium,” calls on young innovators to engineer robotic solutions that promote a healthier planet. Set in a city that physically bridges continents and oceans, Panama provides a symbolic backdrop for global unity in solving environmental challenges through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
A Strong Start and a Bold Pivots
The Mauritius team kicked off their journey seven weeks ago, diving headfirst into design and assembly. Despite having made significant progress on their robot, the team recently made the bold decision to revisit the official game video (watch here)—a move that led to a complete strategic overhaul.
After careful analysis, they identified opportunities to improve their robot’s performance. The revised design now focuses on maximising the collection of colourful balls, which is a key scoring element of this year’s game. The robot is being enhanced for better speed, precision, and reliability in collecting and depositing these game pieces.
Strategic Focus: Points & Partnerships
In addition to technical upgrades, the team is also refining their match strategies. One major goal is to secure the Coorpetition® Bonus—a reward given when opposing alliances work together during a match. By fostering collaboration with other teams, Mauritius hopes to consistently rack up bonus points and stand out on the global stage.
Looking Ahead
The road to Panama is challenging, but the Mauritius Robotics Team is embracing every twist and turn with enthusiasm, determination, and unity. With each passing week, the robot becomes more refined, and the team’s confidence grows.
